About Laurie Smith, Ed.D., Superintendent

Superintendent Dr. Laurie Smith has dedicated over 25 years to public education, serving as a visionary leader committed to fostering positive relationships and always putting students first. Prior to her role as Upper Dublin School District's Superintendent, Dr. Smith served as the Assistant Superintendent for Perkiomen Valley School District, where she focused on enhancing teaching and learning through an exceptional commitment to professional development. She also brings extensive experience as a middle-level principal, where she worked collaboratively with her staff to create a strong sense of belonging for students while maintaining high academic standards.

Dr. Smith has led districtwide initiatives such as 1:1 technology implementation, Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) teams, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) integration, school construction, virtual school creation, and professional development. She is passionate about supporting educators, designing engaging learning experiences, and supporting programming to meet the needs of all learners.

Dr. Smith is dedicated to inclusive practices and responsive teaching practices that support all learners' sense of belonging.  She also prioritizes leadership development, fostering trust, reflection, and growth among school leaders. She believes that investing in strong leadership directly enhances school environments and improves student success.

About Julien Drennan, Assistant Superintendent

Our Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Julien Drennan, is an experienced educational leader who formerly served as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development for Lower Moreland Township School District. In her curriculum role, Mrs. Drennan oversaw all aspects of curriculum, assessment, and instructional best practices, leading strategic curriculum renewal and implementing rigorous programming for special education students and English Learners. Mrs. Drennan led the development of a K-12 STEM articulation, coordinated federal programs, mentored administrators, and facilitated professional development to enhance teacher capacity. Her K-12 knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and learners was developed during her time as an elementary and middle school Assistant Principal and a High School Principal. As a key district leader, she contributed to strategic planning, managed structural transitions, moved the district to 1:1, implemented Restorative Practices, and presented data-driven insights to the Board. A former German teacher and coach, she has a proven track record of increasing student achievement, expanding academic programs, and fostering an inclusive learning culture.
