Understanding the Role of the School Counselor

Our school counselors are committed to helping all students reach their full potential. They are dedicated to supporting each student’s overall well-being and happiness while fostering a positive, kind, and inclusive school culture. By collaborating with students, teachers, and parents/guardians, our elementary school counselors provide a range of services, including academic guidance, emotional support, and conflict resolution. Their goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where every student can thrive both academically and personally.

Our School Counseling Services

Here are some of the ways school counselors serve our schools and help to position students for their best learning:

  • Providing classroom lessons using our MindUp curriculum. MindUp is an evidence-based program including a series of lessons that work together to increase prosocial choices, executive functioning, as well as social and emotional competence.

  • Offering individual counseling check-ins and group counseling sessions to assist children with learning skills to build interpersonal relationships, problem solving, coping skills, and more.

  • Collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators to help with challenges in the classroom.

  • Facilitating the school's Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team meetings to address students’ academic, behavioral, and social and emotional needs. A Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a framework that provides targeted support to students based on their individual needs, offering varying levels of intervention across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas. It aims to ensure all students receive the appropriate support to succeed, with more intensive interventions for those who need them.

  • Supporting the school's School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Program (SWPBIS) to reinforce positive behavior.
